Film Trailer initial image

Most film trailers have the first image as a green screen as shown as an image below stating that the trailer has been approved to be seen by all audiences by a given company, i included this as it is a typical convention of most film trailers and makes the production look that bit more professional rather than looking like a production that has been created in school which has been my main aim for the project as a whole therefore any conventions i can follow to make it look as professional as possible i will do so that the production can be as professional as possible.

Movie Poster Reflection

The Conventions of a film Poster
There are many items within a film poster that occur in many posters, however some a very individual and do not follow the trend for example the King Kong poster does not follow any of the trends. However the conventions of a film Poster tend to be:

  1.    Initially there will be a large masthead which willl be the centre point of the poster and my aim is to make it as vivid and eyecatching as possible.
  2.    You may then have the actor’s names as if the audience know who is in the film they may like a certain actor’s films and it may make them want to see that film.
  3.    A poster may also have quotes from the film which depict the action so the audience has an idea of what will occur.
  4.    Every poster has a large image or images from the film or a still image to give the audience an idea of who stars in the film and the majority give them an idea of what the film is about and the genre of the film. The image tends to be the centre piece of the poster and it is there to catch the eye of the audience.
  5.    The majority of the film posters will have credits on the bottom of the page which will include names of the producers directors etc as with the actors the audience may be led towards a famous persons films for example Stephen Spielberg.
  6.    The films may also have their web address so that the audience are able to have a look at the trailer of the film online.
  7.    The posters will also have the small icons of all the added parts of the film for example the sound editors may be Dolby stereo or it may be ORION pictures (as shown below are examples)
  8.   The poster may also feature the release date to give the audience the date at which they can first see the film.
  9.   They may also contain the awards that the film has already won.

Movie poster Reflection

Below are some of the posters that i looked at to give me an idea of what i should aim to make my poster look like they are all of the horror genre and have the one main charecter featured in most but not all therefore giving me the potential idea of not using the charecters at all.

As can be seen above all these posters have different coventions and are very different in terms of the images and what they portray. I feel that for my poster i can use these posters to my advantage and incorporate some of the conventions however the images are very iconic and have a lasting effect on the audiences memory and therefore it will be key that i create an image which will have a similar effect but obviously may not be on the same scale as these shown above.
Before carrying out the process of making the movie poster I carried out some work to indentify the conventions of a film poster which involved identifying what the common factors of a film poster are. I then took this into account and drew up a sketch of what I would like the poster to be like this included all aspects including the small icons which are in the film for example Dolby stereo. i liked the look of the friday 13th movie poster as features below as it is easy to identify the genre as soon as you see it. When I had created this on paper I opened a Photoshop page and opened an A3 size blank sheet to work on.
I then first made the title “FLASHBACK” I made this size 142pt font and used Lucida Fax font for the title with the colour orange with yellow drop shadows to give the effect of the fire which was going to place towards the end of the film however this is a hidden issue that the audience will not know from the trailer.
Following this I set a background, I chose plain grey to be the colour as one of the last shots we see is of the man walking into the darkness therefore black depicts this appropriately. However I later decided that incorporating fire to the poster would indicate that a fire may take place at some point and give the potential audience something else to think about rather than just murders and typical horror movie scenes.
When I had set the background and title the next main issue was to find an image, I felt that a still image from the film would be the best option and therefore I used the most powerful image which is that of the murderer’s eyes staring back at the audience so that the poster catches the audience’s eye.
The bulk of the poster contains a line associated to the film, so I this case I used “ONE MAN GOES BACK TO PASTURES OLD, BUT IS NOT ALONE” as I thought this captured what happened in the film significantly. This was size 24pt font with lucida fax font in the colour orange. I chose orange as like with my magazine cover everything to do with the film is in orange so that the audience recognises it and so that it stands out from the rest of the text. Orange is a good depicter of fire and with the fire being the hidden issue in the film I thought using orange would maybe make the audience wonder why it was orange and not a typical horror font such as red.
I then created the credits at the end naming all the producers directors names etc I used Niagara Engraved as this was a straight font which is similar to that which is used in most of the film posters, I made sure to include all the people’s names who are mentioned the most on the other film covers on mine.
Finally I added the web address so that the audience could read up on the film if they were interested this was also size 24 font and lucida fax font.
Once the large scale pieces had been done I added the advertisements at the bottom for the sound and pictures who had created the film as this was a typical convention on most of the film posters. These are placed right at the bottom of the page and are very small as they are insignificant to the film that is being promoted.

I followed the convention of many of the film posters by incorporating ratings which would be given by the leading newspapers in the UK so that it gave the poster a professional outlook and represented a film poster in every sense.
For my image I used a class mate as my model to look like a potential murderer I made him wear a mask that may be associated with a horror character so that his facial expressions weren’t that of a typical human and it made him look more like he was about to commit murder rather than looking like an innocent school boy. I used freddie cruger as someone to base my charecter around however with the little money available to create a proper charecter it was very hard to do so therefore i looked at using masks with ragegd clothing to somewhat resemble the picture illustated below.

For my poster i used the image that is shown below however on photoshop i edited this image so it made the mask look alot more realistic and makes it stand out to the audience i made the blood marks bolder and made the creases in the facial pattern alot darker so they stood out i also darkened the jacket so that the zip could not be seen therefore with the darker jacket peices of the face stood out even more to the audience making it even more appropriate and making it that bit more realistic adding to the scariness of the face.

When reviewing my poster i found that when i printed it, the print cropped some of the page due to dimensions and to ovade this i had to move everything that was being cropped in slightly. This didnt have a great affect on the overall outlook just caused a small hinderance while trying to finalise small peices of the poster.

Movie Magazine Reflection

Conventions of a film magazine
When looking to make a movie magazine cover, the first step you should take is to research the conventions of other magazines so that you know what a typical magazine would look like so that you’re not an individual in the market. However you want to have individual qualities so that the customer will purchase your magazine.
Film magazines have many items which are similar in all their copies and are a template for all the magazines the company makes, so that they do not have to spend time designing each cover differently. The similar aspects of each magazine cover would be:
·         A large title which stands out from the rest of the writing on the cover.
·         They will always have a price and a date with the price varying depending on how often the magazine is printed e.g. if it is a monthly magazine it is likely to be more expensive than a weekly mag.
·         There may be the company’s website name on the magazine to advertise the firm some more.
·         All magazines will have a barcode on the cover or on the back at some point simply for the convenience of the shop selling the mag.
·         There will then be a small paragraph about the main film which is featuring in this issue of the magazine.
·         There will always be an image of the most important story featuring in the magazine
·         They may also write about the magazine being the best in the UK for example empire.
·         A background colour which is evident of the movie which is featuring in that magazine
Movie Magazine Reflection
In my first session of creating the magazine I made sure that all the research was carried out and I had a good idea of the typical horror magazines and what mine should look like compared to the top selling movie magazines like “Total Film” and “Empire.” I then done some personal research and found a more unconventional magazine called "little white lies" and i compared it with "Total Film" and combined them both using both conventions when looking to create my own ideas. As can be seen they are very different on one hand total film has a lot going on and contains alot of information whereas the little white lies magazine is a lot less subdued and therefore has a different effect on the reader, this will then lead to it appealing to a different niche in the market and therefore incapturing their own unique brand. I therefore felt it would be a good idea to use both ideas as one for my magazine to incorporate both markets.

As can be seen above all the magazine covers have a main image in the centre of the page to catch the attention of the audience and most contain peices about what else will be seen inside the magazine some of the images overlay the masthead and some go underneath the masthead depending on the type and size of the image. They also tend to keep the featured film with the same text and colour on the page so that the audience can distinguish between both.

Once I had completed all of the research and sketched what I wanted the magazine to look like and what it would involve I then opened an Adobe Photoshop page where I started with a blank canvas, which was the scale of an A4 sheet of paper. This isn’t the typical convention of a magazine as they vary but I felt it was a good set figure that would be good for the sort of magazine I am looking to make. After setting the scale of the page I looked at a background and a common background for a horror magazine was typically black, therefore I based my decision of using black on the regular occurrence of it in the horror film market. Therefore the measurements for the cover itself will be 23.01cm wide by 30 cm in height. Which is just larger than A4 so that it wouldn’t look odd compared to other magazines, some people say it does not make a difference on the size however it would look odd being slightly smaller than the others.
My second lesson started with a recap of the last lesson and looking at what I had already created in the first session so that I knew exactly where I was and planned out what I was going to do in this session so that I was organised and had a clear aim for the lesson.
I then had a grey canvas with which I could work to create the look I had sketched up earlier in my research. I could not settle on a name however I came to the conclusion that HORROR FILMS would be suitable for a horror magazine as it says what it does basically. Once I had created a name of the magazine I had to design the heading so that is was different to the rest on the market. Firstly I placed the masthead 2cm from the top of the page so that when being purchased the Masthead is above the other magazines so that the customer knows the magazine they are buying and it is easy to identify when purchasing. I then made the masthead I used size 135pt for the horror part so that it would stand out at the top of the page and the film half was size 35pt so that it could still be seen as part of the masthead but was not too large as to take the eye away from horror. I used the colour red however I used the saturation mask so that it was not bright red more of a brown/red colour so that it is a strong mast head but was still not over the top.
For all the other pieces of text I wrote I used the same font Lucida Fax as I thought using the same font made the magazine cover look professional as it doesn’t keep changing around the page. However I did change the colour of some of the texts, for example when writing about my film I used orange as this depicts the fire which is a key part of the film well and it made the text stand out, whereas the other text was in white so that it was still readable to the customer. Apart from the accolade at the bottom of the page about it being the UKs best horror magazine. Whenever I mentioned Flashback on the magazine cover I made sure that it was a much larger font than the rest so that the audience knew what the film was that was being shown in that magazine.
In my third lesson all I had to do was to add all the small pieces which makes the magazine a typical magazine and makes it what it is therefore before I started entering the pieces to the page I made sure they were the right scale and colour so that they didn’t look odd on the front page of the magazine. The page dimensions were an issue when first printing as the page would be cropped to fit this is because magazine covers are not A4 they are typically slightly larger so that they do not match the A4 sheets.
I then placed a provided barcode from the media department onto the page; I chose to place it in the bottom left corner so that it was out of the way and didn’t interfere with the front page and all the images and text. However when I came to print I realised it looked to big therefore I transformed the scale so it looked small on screen however really it was the correct size when printing.
I then placed the date and the price on the right hand side and under the title so that that was out of the way but was also viewable to the customer when looking to purchase. I used white text for this also however I did deliberate using another colour so that it would stand out however this was too much trouble as the right colour to use was a struggle to find as typical colours just didn’t suit the page.
My main image is of a murderer in the film it Is a very enticing image which will catch the eyes of the audience instinctively and will make them want to read more about the film and would be a good marketing tool for the film. The image gives the connotation of evil and easily depicts horror. With such a striking image the audience of the genre category would immediately be enticed to look at the magazine some more. These types of images have been used for Freddie vs. Jason and Friday 13th as they show the main character and give the audience an early relationship with the character.

However when i came about doing this the images were not of great quality therefore i changed my idea quite drastically i used a small image of the murderer and darkened it so that it made it more realistic and then used an image of the main charecter ad the main image looking into the darkness not knowing the murderer was behing him this gave the effect that he was shocked and was hearing scary noises around the house.

When reviewing my peice i felt a black background would best suit this magazine as firstly it gives a greater influence on darkness and secondly the image of the muderer stand out more therefore giving the audience a very eye catching peice that would stick in their memory rather than not remembering which film it was from. This was also evident from audience feedback they felt the grey background made everything too light and did not emphasise the darkness therefore when it came to using the black background everything became alot more subtle.

Final Filming and Image Collection

I had my final filming session where i had to get a few shots of the muderer running between rooms at the abandoned hotel, this was not a very long process only involved having the camera in the hallway and running back and forth between the rooms. Aiming to run into and out of rooms where the main charecter stephen had been looking with interest to add to the horror effect. This took a small amount of time and would only be edited so they were short sharp shots to add to the anticipation.

My last images were of the main charecter stephen i needed these for my magazine cover. I firstly asked him to look over his shoulder asif he had heard something behind him. I then took another shot of him looking to one side as if he were looking into the dark and gloom. These shots were easy to take and just required him to wear the same clothing and look the same as he had done in the first filming session.

We came across a small issue that i needed to film outside however the weather did not suit this and as i had a limited amount of time to collect my peices i had to change the scenary and use another shot as i could not get the peice taken in time.

Once i had collected all these peices it just required me to add them to my coursework peices and finalise thos and then i would be almost finished all i would have to do would be the final touches to make the final peice perfect and then carry out user feedback to find out the opinions of the potential target market.

Production of the trailer

When filming my trailer i filmed in three slots rather than one large sessions as i needed to change peices of the film as i went along as some of the shots were either not suitable or they could have been shot better than what they were in the first place. My trailer was a long process that went on for a number of weeks and in this time i had edited and redited this peice as several time i felt it was not up to standard and therefore i had to change it so that i felt happy with it and that the potential audience would be attracted by it.

Teaser Trailer

Conventions of Horror Teaser Trailers
The conventions of horror films vary depending on the type of horror it is. For my case the main convention would be suspense and shock, this is carried out by the producer adding a pause between shots of half a second which allows the shock to be a lot greater. The unreality is also a large part of the horror in my film, with the murderer being a masked freak this is not what a usual film would contain therefore varying the convention. A regular convention would be dark and gloominess as this adds a feeling of suspense to the audience as they are never sure as to what is going to happen next. Anything could occur out of the dark where as in daytime it is easier to tell what is going to happen. Another convention would be blood and gore as this can scare or frighten a large amount of people depending on the way it is used. They can also use knives and guns as this is a way of showing that some sort of harm is going to be caused, this is the main part of my film as the bad guy in my case is carrying a large machete which in the end is going to be used to kill the young man.
Teaser Trailers Textual Analysis
For my teaser trailer I am looking to study the Horror genre, this involves studying trailers which are similar to what I am aiming to do so that I am able to build an understanding of what the conventions of a horror trailer are and how I should be looking to formulate my own trailer. I studied three of the Saw trailers as this is a theme of which I am very keen on. I also studied the human centipede, the exorcist and what lies beneath, so that I got an idea of conventions of other horror movies as well as those I’m looking to create.
The camera work in Saw is generally medium close up shots or low angle shots as these show the power of the person in control or the people who are receiving the pain for example it shows how vulnerable they are and with the medium close up shots in gives the audience a good idea of the pain they are receiving and how terrified they are. Seeing as Saw is generally filmed with one room as the main action station they tend to have cameras in set positions swapping between them every 2 seconds to give the viewing audience a sense of worry and anticipation. By doing this it makes the scene seem that bit scarier as the audience is none the wiser as to what’s about to occur. This is similar in the other films however there trailers the camerawork varies a lot more.
The lighting throughout the trailer tends to differ as at the start it tends to be light but as the action builds it becomes darker to give the scary effect that the audience struggles to see what happens and are looking into the unknown. However by mixing the two gives the audience a sense of what the film is about so that it is not off putting and therefore makes them want to see the film. By filming in darkness is used throughout saw as it is key to making the scenes look a lot more scary but also gives a sense of realism as the room they get locked in is very dirty and therefore darkness portrays that it is not a very nice place.
The mise en scene is the most important part of the saw films as they are what the film is based around. In Saw 1 they are locked in an abandoned bathroom of some sort and are tied up using chains and are only provided with a saw this therefore sets the platform for a very weird and distressing film as there can only be one eventuality.

Therefore for my film I will be looking to use a small room and only provide minimum amounts of props so that the weirdness can be portrayed through my trailer just like it is done in the Saw trailers.
Most trailers use large amounts of editing as the image changes nearly every two seconds therefore requiring the producer to connect a large number of clips so that they make a trailer that is believable to the audience. They also have to edit the soundtrack so that it fits with the clips in the trailer. For example in the saw trailer the clown’s voice is being spoken over the top of the trailer to give the scariness to the audience as we do not expect a murderous clown. Therefore for my trailer I could look at using sound from the clips for some of the trailer but also use a soundtrack which fits to the action that is taking place in the clips.
Therefore when I come to filming my trailer I should look at the saw trailers and use their conventions so that my trailer is similar and contains pieces of the genius which are portrayed throughout the Saw trailers.

The Software Involved

For my film i will be using the corel video studio software as my eay of editing the film and collating all of the shots to make a successful trailer. Corel is a developing video editing software and has various advantages and disadvantages some being that it is very simple however it has a tendancy to be very slow and therefore holding up me in my progress to make the trailer. Before starting the trailer i have only used corel once when learning how to use the software for the first time this was a success and i found it relatively easy to use.

For my poster and magazine cover i am going to be using Adobe Photoshop. This is possibly the best peice of software available to me as a student to make the best possible magazine cover and poster that i can, we used photoshop previously at AS to collate a magazine contents and cover so i have a reasonable amount of knowledge about the software and would be comfortable to use it to create my magazine cover and poster. However i do not fully understand some aspects and therefore i feel the aid of the media studies teacher will be of great help to me.

Issue with images

For my magazine cover i had looked at using stephen thurley a classmate who has the main role in my trailer, i had been looking for him to look shocked and scared so that it would look as though he had heard a noise behind him and he has turned round in worry of not knowing what was behind him, an i would leave a black gap on the page so that it gave the impression that he was looking into the unknown/darkness. However the first time i did this the images did not look convinving enough and did not have suitable charecteristics that made the film stand out as a horror therefore i would have to retake the images and try and make stephen act so that his faced looked very scared and worried as if he had really heard something behind him so that the realism would shine through.

Image Collection

When creating a magazine cover and a poster it is essential that the images are of the right genre and make the right impression upon the target audience so that they can put an image to the film so that they have a image in their mind that will allow them to relate to the film.

For my magazine cover and poster i felt that i would not use the same image i would look to differentiate as the typical conventions would suggest that the pictures would vary so that the poster gives an insight to the film whereas the magazine cover was more the main charecter and small hints about the film. Therefore i got my actor to wear al dark clothing, ragged if it was possible and wear a mask that somewhat resembled freddy cruger to give the horror genre impression on the audience, the images came out well in the practise shoot and i felt that they would be ideal for what i was looking for, therefore when it came to the real shoot i made sure that the facial image was correct and the clothing somewhat resembled what a murder may look like. Obviously this was a hard charecter to create as i felt that copying a murderer from another film would be plagirsm and therefore i would have to capture features that would be individual to my charecter so that it would set him apart from charecters in other movies.

Once the pictures had been taken all i had to do was to add them to photoshop and then crop them so that they suited the cover and poster and they would be done as previously i had already created the template for the images to be placed into. However some of the pictures were not of great quality such as the one below and therefore would not be able to go into the coursework. Also the use of the mask makes it seem very unrealistic and therefore i felt that the pictures i had taken wouldnt be of much use as they would be very hard to incorporate realistically. Therefore i had a second image collection session where i got images of the main charecter looking to one side and then the other, and had the idea that i could use these to give the effect that he was looking into the darkness so that with little idea of what there was. This gives a good indication of him being lost and not feeling safe where he is.

Second Filming Session

Second Filming

For my second session of filming i used one of my classmates houses, he lives in an old hotel and was the perfect setting for my next peice of filming to be located. I asked my classmate Stephen Thurley to be my actor and he was the perfect man for the job as he was what i felt the man in the film would look like from the begging as he did not look like he had just come from school he looked like he was casual and had the perfect features for the job. I asked him to wear casual clothing as with any A2 production their is little or no budget and therefore he used suit jeans and a plain shirt. Once ready we set up the camera in the corridor and i asked him to walk towards the camera like we had done in the first session and carry out similar acting, he done this well acting as though he had been to the property before and recognised it but just couldnt understand why he was there. For this shot i am going to split it into two parts in the trailer so that i can begin with it and then come back to it like the name suggests "FLASHBACK." Following this i carried out an over the shoulder shot of him walking through a door into another corridoor just to add to my shots so that when im editing i can use them and incorporate them should they be required otherwise i will aim to use them as part of the outtakes, i just felt they would be handy to have should i need extra clips.

With the above shot we had not moved the peices of furniture from the hallway therefore i did not look suitable to go into the movie so this peice of filming will not be used as part of the final film but it was helpful to do and i have now learnt from my mistakes and will remember not to leave items in the shot which will not suit what the film is about.

With the below shot i had left the camera on zoom from the shots before and therefore when i had come to film the next shot it had very little focus and was not even incorporating the actor, this is another error from which occured by accident and by doing this again i learnt and now remember to check before starting so that i am not wasting my time and the actors time by having to retake shots for little or no reason.

First Edititng Session

When editing the key is to have all your peices of filming ready in the library however this was not possible for me as i had to film over a long time period due to the use of school cameras therefore i had to edit peices at i time. However this was fine as when first filming i had captured the first page of my storyboard so it was fine as i did not have to arrange shots into chronological order.

Firstly i created all the titles which would be appearing so that they were done and ready to be placed into the trailer alongside the pieces of film. These were very easy to create it only involved the small matter of clicking on the "title" tab in the corel video studio and then typing what i wanted to feature for example "One Man" or "Coming Soon" therefore this only took a short period of time to collate.

The second stage of editing was the cutting of the film segments. This however was a bit trickier as you had to make sure that the time scale of each shot was not too long winded so that it was boring to watch and that i wasnt too short as to not contain enough information. The other issue was that with my trailer i would be coming back and forth between shots and therefore would have to make sure that when returning to a shot i had not joined it at a different point and therefore leaving the audience with lots of different images in the heads. To do this i would have to record the timing which i had cut an image and then when i come round to entering that peice of film again all i would have to do is cut the peice out that i already have and then run the rest of that clip. This may sound confusing however i made sure that i made it as easy as possible for myself before going into creating the film.

When i went to save my first peice of editing i came across some issues in saving the first issue was not serious, i realised that the process can be very long as i was saving a large file and the right idea would be to save it in parts so that when i came to making the final save i would be able to get it saved in a shorter period of time rather than waiting long periods. The main issue however was that when i came round to re-opening the file the following lesson i had found out that i had saved it in the incorrect format and that the film clips were no longer viewable as they have been saved incorrectly and therefore i would have to re-edit each clip. This was a large setback however at this stage i had only edit three shots and there was not too much work involved in adjusting it.

Audience Feedback

I selected 25 students from my year group from my class and also from another class, i done this so that there would be no bias and there would be those who didnt see it in the making, i made sure firstly that they were all horror film fans.

What do you think about the magazine cover?
What do you feel about it compared to a market leader such as Empire?

The responeses included :
"i feel that it is a different magazine cover that varies largely from those already in the market and targets a niche in the market"
"It is very well designed and has good qualities and is very easy to look at i would definatley buy it"
"i feel compared to a market leader it is not quite there yet, but that is obvious as it has only just been created over time with more knowledge and materials available i feel it has good potential"
However one student did mention that it looks quite plain and does not have much depth to it. To this i felt he may have a point and that it could be adapted however another member of the group discussed that this is a good thing and that with it being simple it does not give the reader too much to look at and confuse them.
Therefore overall we had a good discussion about the magzine both good and bad and i got the idea that some of the group felt very strongly that it could be a successful magazine should it continue with the same conventions however others felt it was too plain and there was places it could be easily adapted, this therefore gave me food for thought and allowed me to see whether i felt it needed changing or not.

I used the same 5 piers to assess my film poster, now for this i asked slightly different questions i asked:

  • What do you think of the film poster in terms of a horror film?
  • If walking past this poster would it catch your eye enough to stop and take interest?
I asked these questions to the group as a whole and asked them to discuss it together while i sit out and write notes about what is being discussed. Initially they began talking about the film poster compared to other horrors.
" Compared to horrors such as Saw i would say that it is not in the same league, however we cannot compare it to that due to the large scale and funds they have available therefore i feel for a small budget peice it is very good and an eye catching peice."
"For me i do not feel it has enough horror about it to scare an audience and catch the eye, however to do this i feel all that needs doing is going against the conventions and have the man with the murderer in the background rather than him alone."
"I feel for a small budget it has been well worked and gives the impression the charecter is looking into the dark with little knowledge of his surroundings and is a good peice"
These discussions gave me good knowledge about my poster and made me understand in more from a audience point of view, both negative and positive points cam from it and i felt i had enough information to make changes where necessary and adapt correctly. However i agree that it is a small budget production and that its hard to get eye catching peices but i will try and adapt my main image to create the eye catching features and then ask them while changing it what they think.

Most of what they had said originally had answered the second question however they discussed it and the 4 out of the 5 felt that it was not eye catching enough and that they probably wouldnt stop however we discussed how to amend this and they felt all that was required was to adapt the facial features of the person so that it looked more exciting.

Finally i had the group analyse my teaser trailer and give me feedback about what they felt about that. For this i simply asked one question:
  • If you were to see this teaser trailer, would you be enticed to go and see the film itself?
The group had this discussion for roughly 5 minutes and some of the results which were found included:
  • "Its a very insightful and typical horror film, but for me to see it, i feel it needs more gore and blood as the trailer did not fulfill this."
  • "Really enjoyed the trailer thought the song was perfect for the trailer and the captions suited the film"
  • "From first look i probably wouldnt see it however from reading the storyline i would definatley enjoy this type of film as it is one of the charecteristics i enjoy"
This discussion allowed me to see exactly what the audience feel so that i am able to adjust my film if needed or so that i can understand where i have gone wrong so that in future i will not make the same mistakes. I feel th key for me is to make the trailer more gorey however on my budget this is hard to fulfill, i have also acknowledged that you cannot please everyone and i should consider the results which have come up most often rather than try and please everyone as it is impossible.

Final Touches

Our deadline for our coursework was to be february half term due to a busy schedule early in the year. We had to have our work finished and handed in by thrusday 17th february, therefore i had to put the final touches to my work and make sure i was happy with all the sections.

Firstly i looked at the magazine cover i made sure that all the colours were how i had planned them to be and that they matched where possible. I had to make sure that the type and size of font was the same or very similar for all the small text peices and for the rest looked recognisable and resembled my film. I then looked at the main images and played around with them slightly to where i felt they looked better, this was a very short process and was a successful one as i had self beleif that i had made a successful peice and was happy with the work i had put together.

I then went on to look at my Film Poster, now with this i had only placed the main image a few days prior so therefore i had to make sure all the editing to the image was done correctly. This meant zooming in and checking the edges of the image for any peices which would make the picture stand out but not in a good way. This was a timely process as i felt it was key to get it right so that i would have the best possible quality image available. I then went on to look at all the peices of text to check that they were the correct colours that i had planned and the correct size of font and type of font. This was a short and simple process that took a matter of minutes and would give me satisfaction that all the texts looked correct. I then finally made sure the stars for the ratings were all the same size so that they all looked the same and wernt out of shape.

Finally i went over my film, i played it through a few times checking on the editing making sure it flowed well and had adequate shot and good filming involved, some of the editing needed to be ammeneded as it was slightly slow and not smooth enough however this was only for a few of the shots and therefore was not very time consuming. I then made sure that all the captions were the same size and resembled the film correctly, my first initial wish was to get my title from my poster and magazine cover into the film however with the software we were using this would not be possible and i would have to create one there and then. This was a small setback and i countered it by creating a very similar one in Corel Video Studio so that it would be very similar to the others.
