Audience Feedback

I selected 25 students from my year group from my class and also from another class, i done this so that there would be no bias and there would be those who didnt see it in the making, i made sure firstly that they were all horror film fans.

What do you think about the magazine cover?
What do you feel about it compared to a market leader such as Empire?

The responeses included :
"i feel that it is a different magazine cover that varies largely from those already in the market and targets a niche in the market"
"It is very well designed and has good qualities and is very easy to look at i would definatley buy it"
"i feel compared to a market leader it is not quite there yet, but that is obvious as it has only just been created over time with more knowledge and materials available i feel it has good potential"
However one student did mention that it looks quite plain and does not have much depth to it. To this i felt he may have a point and that it could be adapted however another member of the group discussed that this is a good thing and that with it being simple it does not give the reader too much to look at and confuse them.
Therefore overall we had a good discussion about the magzine both good and bad and i got the idea that some of the group felt very strongly that it could be a successful magazine should it continue with the same conventions however others felt it was too plain and there was places it could be easily adapted, this therefore gave me food for thought and allowed me to see whether i felt it needed changing or not.

I used the same 5 piers to assess my film poster, now for this i asked slightly different questions i asked:

  • What do you think of the film poster in terms of a horror film?
  • If walking past this poster would it catch your eye enough to stop and take interest?
I asked these questions to the group as a whole and asked them to discuss it together while i sit out and write notes about what is being discussed. Initially they began talking about the film poster compared to other horrors.
" Compared to horrors such as Saw i would say that it is not in the same league, however we cannot compare it to that due to the large scale and funds they have available therefore i feel for a small budget peice it is very good and an eye catching peice."
"For me i do not feel it has enough horror about it to scare an audience and catch the eye, however to do this i feel all that needs doing is going against the conventions and have the man with the murderer in the background rather than him alone."
"I feel for a small budget it has been well worked and gives the impression the charecter is looking into the dark with little knowledge of his surroundings and is a good peice"
These discussions gave me good knowledge about my poster and made me understand in more from a audience point of view, both negative and positive points cam from it and i felt i had enough information to make changes where necessary and adapt correctly. However i agree that it is a small budget production and that its hard to get eye catching peices but i will try and adapt my main image to create the eye catching features and then ask them while changing it what they think.

Most of what they had said originally had answered the second question however they discussed it and the 4 out of the 5 felt that it was not eye catching enough and that they probably wouldnt stop however we discussed how to amend this and they felt all that was required was to adapt the facial features of the person so that it looked more exciting.

Finally i had the group analyse my teaser trailer and give me feedback about what they felt about that. For this i simply asked one question:
  • If you were to see this teaser trailer, would you be enticed to go and see the film itself?
The group had this discussion for roughly 5 minutes and some of the results which were found included:
  • "Its a very insightful and typical horror film, but for me to see it, i feel it needs more gore and blood as the trailer did not fulfill this."
  • "Really enjoyed the trailer thought the song was perfect for the trailer and the captions suited the film"
  • "From first look i probably wouldnt see it however from reading the storyline i would definatley enjoy this type of film as it is one of the charecteristics i enjoy"
This discussion allowed me to see exactly what the audience feel so that i am able to adjust my film if needed or so that i can understand where i have gone wrong so that in future i will not make the same mistakes. I feel th key for me is to make the trailer more gorey however on my budget this is hard to fulfill, i have also acknowledged that you cannot please everyone and i should consider the results which have come up most often rather than try and please everyone as it is impossible.
